Trainer Profiles

Chris Seymour

Chris Seymour is fast becoming the most sought after personal trainer in the city as he continues to break the boundaries of physical evolution with his unique and compelling style of personal training. Completely avoiding the use of machines in his strength-training workouts, Chris utilizes specialised equipment such as kettlebells in conjunction with synchronised full body movements in order to train the body as a single muscle system as opposed to isolating specific areas at a time. Focusing on core, lean muscle development and fat loss, Chris combines his knowledge of exercise and nutrition with cutting edge techniques to ensure his clients maintain a super-lean physique whilst improving their overall performance and daily functionality in life.

Chris’s potential as an elite personal trainer was firmly established upon completion of his diplomas in Gym Management and Advanced Personal Training at Loots, endorsed by Pretoria University’s Sports Research Institute where he was later employed as a trainer and manager. Chris left Loots to work at Body excel, where he further excelled as a trainer whilst simultaneously proving himself as a key athlete at the Villager Rugby Club. Chris started One80 Personal Fitness Trainers in Tygervalley in 2004 but with popular demand from his ever increasing corporate clientele, he eventually moved the business to its current location in Cape Town’s foreshore in 2008. Now situated on the gound level of uber-trendy ENS House, One80 offers fantastic facilities and is conveniently located just a stone’s throw away from the hub of the city centre.

Brent Shield

Brent is a sports enthusiast and his passion and hunger for success has seen him establish himself as a Senior Trainer and key member at One80.

He has achieved Western Province colors for both swimming and athletics and boasts a 100m time of 10:89. This is no mean feat for a man towering in at 6 foot 5 inches! His remarkable speed and agility has also seen him attain provincial honors as a lifesaver and in turn has given birth to his interests in Sports Specific Training.

Brent’s belief is that with correct training techniques and special attention to form sports performance can be enhanced; this coupled with his result and goal driven approach to his training has seen his vast client list reap amazing rewards.

 Nicholas Caracandas

Nick’s bubbly personality, friendly demeanor and exceptional training ability have established him as an integral part of the One80 setup. His grasp of the One80 style of training coupled with his vast knowledge of Martial Arts has seen his training take on an exciting yet unique mould within the gym.

Nick’s greatest passion (besides the breakfast at Food-Lovers) is Martial Arts, in particular boxing, k-1 and Muay Thai. Although Nick is well accomplished in Sports Specific training, he draws his strengths from 16 years of Martial arts training. He began his journey as an astute Karate student from the tender age of 6, and 7 years later he changed his style to the increasingly popular art of Muay Thai. With his specialised knowledge and ability to apply the basic techniques, he heads up our kick-boxing classes with great success.

If your training program has become dull and boring Nick is the trainer to ‘roundhouse’ it back to the fun, unique and inspiring workout that  it should be!

 Edward Forsdick

As one of the newer members of the team, Edward has sought to adapt the “Full Body-One Muscle” training philosophy into his training technique, putting extra effort into refining his Kettle-bell skill set. Through this specialization in Kettle-bell training, and by employing the “multi-plane”/“progressive phase” system developed by, and unique to One80, he prides himself on pushing each client to achieve their maximum possible potential, in a sustainable, real-life orientated approach to healthy living.

Always looking to expand his training repertoire, expect an exciting, fresh, intense and fun training programme that Ed will tailor to your unique needs, helping you to achieve fitness goals you didn’t even know you wanted to set yourself. As Ed, in his personal and professional capacity, seeks to squeeze the maximum out of life, so too will he look to find the maximum in you.

Richard Sumares

Having been born into a family with a sporting back round, it was only fitting that Richard became involved in the health and fitness industry.  Spending 4 years in a larger commercial gym in Johannesburg, Richard consistently found his approach to and philosophy on training to clash with many of the older ideals. After spending time in boxing and MMA gyms to develop new ideas and skill sets, Richard found his ideals being confirmed, witnessing first-hand the benefits of functional training. This spurred him to seek a gym with like minded trainers and personalities dedicated to helping people achieve success.

Richard is also a qualified sports massage therapist and has a special passion for training and assisting clients involved in extreme/adrenaline sports.

Richard applies the following beliefs -  ”balance between mind, body and spirit.” “Form over weight, technique over duration!” “Practice develops skill, Determination develops class!”
